i just looked and i have the same white spots on my tank glass and power heads
what could this be?

ok would that cause the white spots on the fish? or would that be ich? they are still eating fine not showing any signs of anything just the spots

ich on fish, calcium on power heads. no correlation whatsoever.

ok i am setting up my other 20 gallon to try and do a freshwater dip and see if that works

Mystery - do you cut and paste that response to everyone who mentions ich? ;)

Joshl... please give us more info. Tank size, how long it's been set up, inhabitants, parameters, when you got the affected fish and/or any new additions, any changes to routine that may have been stressors, etc.

Part of a cure is treatment, the other part is figuring out what caused it and fixing that.

well the only thing that happened to the regal was it got in a fight with my clown fish on tuesday i have had it for over a month and the tank has been set up for 4-5 months and it is a 50 gallon all the levels are in the good ranges i did a fresh water dip last night and the regal tang doesnt have a spot on him now but the yellow tang that i did still had spots and didnt make it the regal is doing fine now

Well, when I have some good places to start for someone that might not have much knowlegde on the subject, I give it to them. Even if it's the same info as the person that asked the same question yesterday. The exact same question, I try to be consistent with the exact same answer. I also feel it's better than always offering different wrong information.

And that's Mr. Mystery to you.....

is there anyway a fish can get ich from lets say a piece of coral?

No, it all has to do with water quality and stress. And the fact that that your tank is not well established yet. Stability is key.

I don't know of any pathogen that is transmissible from inverts (corals) to fish.

A fish likely carried it in - it may have been present for a while, but the carrier did not show symptoms. Something caused the acute outbreak, but it has likely been there all along.

I agree that the pathogens are most likely not transmitted/carried by the inverts or corals themselves, but there is a slight possibility of them being in the water that comes with them or say attached to a snail shell, frag plug, base rock, or some other such porous media.
