came with the rock, really small about 1/2 in including the legs. The picture has too much green in it he's more gray. I can only see him sometimes at night and he doesn't venture out of the rocks enough to grab him

Unfortunately, that looks like one of the crabs you do not want in your tank. As it gets bigger it will start hunting down small fish that sleep in the rocks. You should get it out sooner rather than later if at all possible.

Hard to tell for sure but perhaps an Acro Crab? Not totally sure if it's an Acro so make sure first.

I'm with Bud. I'd lure him out and put him in the sump. Better safe than sorry. FWIW, I'm not an advocate of killing them. It's not their fault they ended up in your tank. :(

At first glance the body looks like an Emerald crab but it's the claw that has me thinking otherwise.

I agree with Stacy...I never kill.

If you don't have a sump for him to spend his days in I'm sure there are members, me included who will gladly give him a home.

I don't think it's an emerald either, the black claws and the pattern on his head are different on this guy.

Any good tips on how to lure him out and catch it? I'll give it away to somebody since I don't have a sump.

It is a mithrax crab but the question is what type? I believe him to be safe but I would recomend placing him in a sump or other holding container until you figure out for sure.

Ya, I think I have the same one. At first glance, I thought mine was an alien mutant (I was looking at it at night) :), then I realized it was a crab. I never knew I had him, it came to me as a surprise. I've been trying to find out what it is for a while! Thanks, this thread has not only helped you, but it helped me too!

Initially, like Seedless, I thought it was an emerald crab which would be fine for the most part. But then upon a closer look, the claws are all wrong.

What type is he? No idea...just know it's not one that I've ever had.

We lured a hitchhiker crab by cutting the top off a coke bottle, inverting the top so the neck is in the body of the bottle, put some food in there and set it close to his home and the next day we had crab.
