Hey guys I'm pretty new in this reefkeeping thing, and I think I broke the first rule today. I bought piece of coral without knowing what it is. Could someone please ID this for me?

its really hard to tell with that picture. can you get a more zoomed in pic?

whatever it is it doesnt look healthy hope you didnt pay too much for it.

Oh man :( Yeah, I got it for $5 so its not too much lost, but I guess I learned my lesson about not doing research before I buy.

If it had polyps out when you got it give it time to adjust , if conditions are correct it can re grow over the skeleton

+1. I have seen things that were "dead" for a while come back randomly. good luck!

It's a flowerpot that is either scared/sick. From my experience, they are a pretty easy to care for coral so I would think it's just scared. Once it relaxes, each one of those holes should produce a 2-4 inch polyp.
