I had been told it is branching GSP, but then people said their is no such thing...???

Looks like GSP that's overgrown the rock so completely that it's now encrusting itself. It's not "branching" in the technical sense (they're not a skeleton or even gorgonian-like) - if any of those touch another rock for long enough it'll proceed to encrust outwards from the contact point just like normal.

Still looks neat, though.

That's pretty cool. It doesn't look like it's encrusting over something though, unless it's over a dead Gorgonian.

Green Star Polyps are actually a type of Gorgonian (not a coral). It looks like branching variety or it's grown over something branchy and very thin.

Is this yours?

Jenn

I'm sure you can make some kind of sculpture to grow these on.

I'm with Jenn. I think it's green star polyps, there was a thread (here?) a while back asking for ID. When it retracts does it look like a rubber mat?

I have some in the corner of my tank that has formed a couple of branches maybe 2-3 inches. It never branched up like the pic... just going sideways and encrusts on the glass. I do use a razor blade to scrape the glass maybe that's how it got started. As far as I know it's just regular GSP, I picked it up for 5 bucks from a sponsor ( The Pet Shop in Clarkesville).

I'm with Jenn and the others... a GSP that looks like it's just "growing over" itself.

Awesome.

Anybody sell it (green)?

I have seen branching gsp before, it is real. Extremely rare though. I've only seen it once. And yes all those pics in the op are the real deal. Not regular gsp grown over something

Looks like the most common name is Corky Sea Finger. Found some for sale but they are all brown; no green versions...

Had some in my old tank the started growing in vertical cones. The top was open and you could stick your finger in it. There were 3 or 4 tubes about 3" long.

Wow. Where'd you get it?

It was the first coral I ever had. Got it from a Mom and Pop shop that is no longer in business. It was just ordinary GSP but I think the particular flow patters, light, etc just caused it to grow that way. The OPs pic is different though. It has an apparent thin branching stock n

I think I found it by accident (was shopping for acro's lol)

What do you think?
