I boiled my driftwood before adding to my freshwater tank to remove the tannin. My Amano shrimp and Oto don’t eat this stuff. Anyone have recommendations? Is it a bleach and soak to remove or does something eat it? Tank gets natural light, so I originally thought it was blue green algae. Nothing is stringy or on soil substrate, only growing on the wood. Thanks!

Looks like hair algae but I fairly new to fresh water. Wouldn’t think anything was on the wood after cleaning it. Older post so do it figure it out, if not what’s your water parameters.

Thanks for your comment! LFS said it wasn’t to worry, and likely came on the driftwood naturally. It hasn’t spread to any other plants or substrate and grows slowly. I used a toothbrush to remove by hand. I don’t test this tank, because I run other plants that consume any excess nitrogen from the little bit of fish in the tank.
