Any ideas on how to fix a chiller that got rained on? :mad2:

Luckily I checked on my tank just in time to see the temp rising above the normal threshold. Looked outside and saw the door to the cubby my chiller is in wide open and the chiller's control going haywire. Not sure how it opened but it did and now the controller is toast.... It's a Pacific Coast Import

Good news, it was caught just in time!

Bad news, no halides until I find a solution.

Wire in a Ranco thermostat and bypass the controller. Or if you have a reef controller. Bypass the chiller controller and let the reef controller control it.

Take a hair dryer and dry it out well. Then give it another try. Sometimes, things just need to dry out.

Unless it's smoked or fried, drying it out could work, actually more than you would think.

Man that may be perfect. I'm leaving out of town for the next 5 days, in the mean time I have someone coming over to replumb the chiller under my deck where there is no chance this will happen again. Do you think it can handle approximately 750 gallons?

Its this model...

For 750 gallons, probably not but its worth a shot, just let me know

With the current temps outside around 80, you shouldn't need a huge chiller right now. Geoff's would probably be fine. You could also reduce your lighting for 4-5 days down to 4-5 hours to help.

I had a 3/4 HP on my tank for a while and it was too small; ran almost all day long.

If you're going to have your lights on, the 1/2 HP won't cut it. It's nice out right now, so you could open the windows and run a fan over the sump?

Or, you could hang up the skirt and ask permission if you can come play with the big boys :D
