It might be a new growth anthelia.

Can you give a little more description of the rock, where it's been and under what kind of lighting?

It's Marshall Island LR I picked up at LFS which was trade in. When I first got it, there was a purple patch on the LR where this is now growing. The lighting is standard Biocube 29g lighting.

I have a rock that has some growing on it just like that and I was told it was gsp of course mine is a green color hard to tell about yours in the pic

If it was purple it may be green star poylps that somenone had previously scraped off or the rock was upside down and not getting any light. If it is GSP, then it will start to color up and totally cover that rock and any that it is touching. Some people don't like it because it grows so fast but it really is a nice looking coral. I have a huge rock of it in my 65G and it looks great.

In any case, I'd leave it alone and once it grows more or colors up more post another picture.

Ha! You type faster than I do. I agree with you.

It looks just like the xenia elongata I picked up from an ARC member a few weeks ago.

If so, it's a beautiful xenia which grows very tall and big. I'm using it as the background growing up the back of the tank in my 55 gallon FOWLR.

Anthelia for sure.

Mine colored up neon green after a short time in my tank and took over a patch of gsp:yay:

I'm sticking with Xenia, elongata yes........

Ask one question, get 10 different answers, LOL

LoL! So many answers. I'm going to go with GSP, due to its obviously purple mat. If you graze your fingers over it, does it retract into the mat? Leaving only purple visable?

Tyler

Dang it people!!! Well, it doesn't sound like any of the answers point to a species that is harmful which is my main concern.

Here's the xenia elongata I have growing up the back glass of my 55.
