Well since the transfer into the 180 my mixed corals have been ok.All but one monti cap bleached. Two days ago my torch coral about 20 heads melted.Yes almost over night. Now another 12"red monti cap is bleaching real fast.My 13" leather is dying as well.Tested all but mag and was good.Im not claming to be a expert.but i realy did my homework before the transfer.Made sure all matched temp cal akl salanty.Sorry on cell phone cant see.Im sick.Never add a crash before.I wont feel better till i know whats going on.Any thoughts.thanks.

Sorry to hear that. If you bring us a water sample, we would be more than happy to check it out for you. If it is not your water chemistry, it has to be related to shock; lighting, flow, or temp.

I'm sorry to hear all this , i hope it turns around for you quickly .
I wish there was something I could do to help . Was there a lighting increase that could have caused bleaching ?

I was wondering the same thing. Sounds a little extreme to be lighting shock.

Tank is new. All temp tubs are ones that i been usong for for 7 yrs. Lighting is about the same.hot5

Try to make this short. My build tread tells alot, just a few things missing.Had a 90 gal rr sump ati sunpower 4 bulb. corals mostly sps afew lps. tank was running about 3 or so yrs. Also had a 60 gal soft corals.4 bulb aquaticlife. 7 yrs running. both tanks were great. So many months ago bought a new 180 and set up.First i had to break down my 60 soft tank, that is where the 180 sits.Moved all soft coral in a temporary 29 gal. They where in there for about 2 months or so. Did great Where very happy, used the same water.Al the rock did not fit so it went in temp tub. When 180 was set up and sump in place , did water test.then drained and filled with ro and RC salt. After afew days, took the rock out of the temp tub put in 180.After 2 weeks started to put soft coral in and the coral and rock from 90 gal sps and lps.My lighting is this,Was using the 48" 4 bulb atisp fixture and the 48" 4 bulb aquaticlife fixture.I have one at one end and the other at the other end. So in the middle is 8 bulbs and the ends are 4.This lighting is temporary till i figure out what i want.Im not saying its not the light. But i dont think it is.I was thinking maybe the two large leathers on each end.I was real ify on putting them in.The first week or so they all looked good.In fact,The birds nest looks the best as it ever had even right now.Did not use old sand or water. Its BB at this time. And it means alot to me that all of you are trying to help me.Thanks so much, and still if any one has a thought, there are no wrong answers or comments. This is a first for me.Ive read about tank crash, never ever thought it could happen to me.

Good question. When i broke down my 60 with softies in it, i put the coral in a holding tank. And the live rock in a tub with a power head.No light. It was in the for a few months. That rock went in the 180 first for about two weeks before coral. Was wondering if there was a small cycle.I did have very very little brown stuff on lower sides of tank. The crash started about 14 to 18 days after coral was in.I have been checking everthing that i can think of.I did find a EVO power head that was shut down.Mind you i have 4 in tank. When i found the cause, the magnet in the impeller was split.I researched a little on it and found that many do this.Did not read that it leached anything in tank. But i dont rule that out.If anyone thinks it might be one of the things in this post, chime in.So far 3 monti caps completly bleached,1 torch coral out of 20 or so heads,3 heads left.1 DH leather not looking good. All the rest of the corals seem to be ok,for now.Been doing water text. Cal=420 Alk=8 Mag=1200:sick::confused2:

Thanks.I run very little carbon. When this all started, i took it out.Thinking about putting some new back in. Just scared to do any changes.

feel your pain. i swapped a 150 to a 210 back in december 12'. never looked right after. lost it all. tons of sps. fish are ok but still sux. still trying to figure it out

do a water change. when you move rocks and what not any sponges will die when removed from the water. thanks,

I think thats it.. I think you had a lot of die off on all that rock.. you put it in your new tank and you had a major Phosphate spike shocking a lot of corals... I did something similar when I upgraded my tank and also had all my birdsnest survive and softies but had a gorgeous purple haze monti recede all the way to just a couple specs of purple.. I left it alone and after 6 - 8 months it started to recover.. All SPS browned out but after 6 months coloration began returning... I'm now 13 months out and it is showing new growth...

You need to do water changes and run GFO... I wouldn't do anything drastic because the system has already been shocked.. you are through the worst of it... 10-20% weekly water changes and GFO changed bi-weekly for a few months and then monthyly after that... things will get better

Just dont make no sence. Its not like we dont know what we are doing. My family thinks im a nut. I live and breath saltwater.Been doing it for 7 to 8 yrs.And still love it like i just started.I still have a lot to learn.Dont it make you mad that you cant pin point the problem.Thats what gets me.I need to learn from what i did wrong.

has happened to me before because of that. "If" you can keep your rock submerged the whole time then I think you would be better off, but easier said than done. Might want to add some metal rid by kordan as well. both could be real problems. yeah do a large water change. best of luck

I had the smae thing happen to me when I was just switching tanks, my 240 center support broke and when my new 240 came in. I took all my rock and corals and moved them to a seperate hold tanks keep the all cover in water and flow . I took the sand out placed it in a seperate hold tank swap the tanks out. put the sand back in and let it set for a week to settle down ran my skimmer wet and ran carbon. After a week I out all my corals and rock back into the tank and with in two days it was like a domino effect. One colony after another started to rtn and die. I rack my brain and I never figured out what happened , I was lucky because at the time one of my ex friends had a piece of everything I had in my tank and was able to give me frags back to rebuild. Good luck dont get to discouraged .
Also I dont think the magnet had anything to do with whats going on.
