IM20 Peninsula Mixed Reef

I upgraded to a IM20 peninsula!

I love the tank and the transfer went fairly well, but I'm dealing with an outbreak of what I think are dinoflagellates that are really starting to irritate the some of the corals. Researching the best plan of action, or if it's best to just wait it out, but would love to hear what yall think. In the meantime, here's some random photos!

Very curious to see what happens when my leptastrea and cyphastrea meet...

Not a great photo, but just thought it was cute that I got the goby and pom pom in the same pic!

And the "algae" all over my poor gorgonian... what do you think, dinos?

It all looks so beautiful... And you take great pictures by the way! So glad things went well with the transfer over. (I am in the midst of a transfer myself) Now you have a lot more room for more corals! It all looks good to me. LOVE it! Your corals look bright and happy too. Wonderful set up!

I haven't really updated this much at all so I thought I'd share some progress pics! I've fought off dinoflaggellates a few times. Most of the corals made it through but my gray watchman goby got some kind of stomach ulcers/tumors/infection and died during the worst outbreak. I since have added a yasha goby and a randall's assessor basslet. Some of my acros took a nose dive after a water change several months ago but everything pulled through after some chopping. Pretty much everything else is doing super well. I finally sold all my frags that were crowding the tank and have been soooo happy with how it's looking.

Just thought I'd give a little update/photo dump. I've been surprisingly busy during the pandemic and haven't given the tank the attention it deserves, but have been trying to be more involved and play more with photography in the last couple weeks. Despite the lazy maintenance, things are going pretty well overall! Swapped out my cynarina for a lobo, got rid of the macro algae that was left, and have trimmed back some of the SPS and gorgonian. I added a super cool final fish, a white-lined combtooth blenny, but sadly it only lasted a few days for some reason. Thinking about a court jester goby now, and on the hunt for an especially pretty crocea clam to complete the tank... for now :p .

Poor baby Lily the possum wrasse keeps getting slightly beat up by something... she'll have these white patches occasionally that just heal right up after a couple days...

Amazing tank and photos. I hope my lagoon grows out and has the aesthetics yours does. What camera and lens are you using to take these photos?

Thanks! Most of these photos are taken with a Sony a7 III and FE 2.8/90 Macro G OSS lens. It's hard to take a bad photo with this fancy baby! I've been trying out another wide angle lens lately too though and it's pretty cool for some shots. I think just the top down is with that one and I'd have to walk all the way upstairs to figure out what model it is so I'll get back to you on that, hah!

I hope you continue to post pictures here, I just tried on Instagram and am not able to zoom in there. Unless I'm not doing something right, I'm not familiar with it.

Great pictures! I especially like the pics of your yellow banded possum wrasse. I had one for about 2 1/2 years in my IM 10. He was quite shy at first but eventually became super tame, always coming out to greet me and beg for food. Alas... I got into a bad habit of sometimes leaving the lid off the tank and he jumped one day. He was definitely one of my favorite fish.

If you're in mobile I think you can zoom by pinching but it's not very good quality. I'll definitely keep posting photos here but it will probably just be occasional photo dumps instead of frequently!

Thank you! The possum wrasse is my favorite too! Mine was the same, shy for a really long time but now is out and about more than any of my others. I'll be sure to not get lazy with my lid!

Now that we aren't gonna lose anything (and I can use emojis😝) I thought I might update!

I sold the beautiful goniopora as it was shading too many corals and got a yellow octospawn to replace it.

I also sold my acan colony as it was getting too big as well. 😢 The only negatives of having a nano tank. I bought a little misfit bleeding apple scoly to replace the acans, though I'm not sure if it's going to like that exact spot or not. It's still getting comfortable but here's a quick pic:

I took apart the mint pavona colony and rebuilt it on a little island/tower for the clam to sit on so she could get a little more light. It looks kinda hideous right now but hopefully in a couple months (or years 🤦‍♀️) it will look as good as ever.

At least the clam seems to like it! I'm going to try to get some pink diamond zoas to cover the tray.

I think I caught my RFAs spawning a week or two ago!
DSC03427.jpg

Wondering if I might have a male and a female, as that one against the glass seemed to be releasing a little bit of cloudy stuff and the other was wiiiide open. I feel like I need a NSFW warning 🤣
DSC03462.jpg

The only coral issues I'm having are my pipe organs are starting to struggle. It seems there's a sponge that has grown all up in them, so I'm guessing that's starting to suffocate them. I see the hermits and aterina picking at them often, but only recently, so they must like the sponge and such growing in there. Hopefully they aren't eating the dying polyps! I tried to do a freshwater dip, let them dry out some as I've read sponges don't like to touch air, and even dip a peroxide dip, but nothing seems to make much of a dent. I'm going to try a stronger peroxide dip, and might try moving them to a higher light and higher flow area.
