Anyone know where they can be found.. I may be using the wrong search parameters, but I can't find much information on them.

...are they THAT new to the industry?

I have the same ATO as well but my girls brother has one with a laser mounted above the water. It's waaayyyyyy for sensitive then our tunze. It will detect the slightest drop in water level and kick the pump on. It's really cool but I have no idea what it's called. I'll have to ask him next time I'm in new Orleans.

there are ways to make a DIY IR switch... Not for the easily scared though. Laser is a little to accurate IMHO. Thay can sense very small ripples in the surface.

I saw this, but I think it's actually a true photocell...

the new tunze osmolator has an optical switch and a traditional backup float switch (for extreme high water alarm)

Thanks y'all, after getting into it, I think it's going to be more sensitive than I will need..
