Hi everyone! My husband and I are new to saltwater tanks and looking forward to education and troubleshooting support. We just set up our Red Sea XL 300 and are cycling with Moani rock and live sand. Looking forward to meeting some people at a future club event.

Hi! Welcome to ARC!

Post up some pics of your new tank. Do you know what type of livestock you're planning on keeping?

Looks good. Welcome to the ARC. Lots of good info to be had here. Glad to have you here.

Hi! Welcome to ARC!

Thanks for asking! My future goal is to have a pair of sea horses and at least one starfish with my coral collection. There will probably be a few fish in my future, but not many. I love the cleaner shrimp too! I still have a lot to learn about types, but I would want at least one anemone that walks around and I like the look of LPS torch corals and hammerheads, which must be carefully placed in a tank from what I have read. I’ll want some colorful branching corals that don’t grow too fast for the tank size. I could keep picking things I like the look of ... hence we went for a bigger tank!

You’re off to a good start. Thank you for becoming supporting members.

All of the things you’ve mentioned for livestock are possible. Just a couple suggestions, one being that anemones usually do better in mature tanks, and seahorses are considered advanced specimens. At least by some of us anyway.

Patience is the most important thing to put into a reef tank.

Welcome to the ARC!

You might regret wanting an anemone that likes to “walk around”. I just had one walk or float right into my power head and got DESTROYED...first time in 10 yrs of reefing. Not to ruin anemones for you though cause they are beautiful and if they find a happy place or rock they like, they may stay there a long time.

Welcome to ARC and the beauty and excitement of owning your own little piece of the ocean. I love your tank selection as I too, own a Red Sea tank. When the woes come around, just remember what @ichthyoid already mentioned. Nothing good happens in this hobby fast! Happy reefing!
