I bought a section of clear 3/4"sch 40 pvc for use as a level indicator on my water setup and to feed pellets to coral. When I opened it it had a very distinct oily smell so I checked my order. I ordered furniture grade, which would explain the lesser cost. Does anyone know if furniture grade sch 40 clear pvc can be cleaned or is otherwise safe for use in my tank and water setup?

Thanks in advance.

I use furniture grade pvc on all my plumbing. It did not smell oily... where did you buy it?

I ordered it from Amazon, said it comes directly from Amazon.com LLC. Below is the description straight from the order

FORMUFIT P034FGP-UV-5 Schedule 40 PVC Pipe, Furniture Grade, 5', 3/4" Size, Clear

Got mine directly from Formufit.com. I wouldn't be concerned after rinsing it off.

Any clear pvc is much more pure than colored pvc. Almost all clear is food grade.

I have never had any problem with pvc pipe no matter the color, I like to use clear cement but once the glue dries it’s all non toxic as well.
