Ok.. maybe that makes me sound like an idiot. I've just never seen one like this. Is it crap? Should I use it?

Looks like an aquac but no air intake and no water intake bulkhead. How in the would I get a bulkhead in there? How could someone get it out??

I found this.

Seems like more headache than it's worth.

That is a skimmer. The dead giveaway is the collection cup and drain. This looks like a good old fashioned Beckett Skimmer. http://myreefcreations.com/knowledge-base/MR-R-Skimmer.html">http://myreefcreations.com/knowledge-base/MR-R-Skimmer.html</a>

Beckett skimmers used high pressure pumps to push water through a Beckett pond fountain nozzle through the hole in the top of the black box. They were noisy, costly to operate and were replaced by needle wheel style skimmers. If you are a DIY type person, you could purchase a needle wheel pump and feed the output into the black box and end up with a good skimmer.

Thanks for the info.

I am a diy but I'd rather not try this new endeavor with SW and also a new endeavor with skimmers with a DIY.

Yup very old style skimmer. In all honesty you can pickup a used one cheaper than you can retrofit that one back to working condition.

That's what I figured. Less headache trying to get it working right too.
