Well, I've been sitting on a frag tank that I bought from my friend @seand for too long and I've finally started to set it up. It's replacing one of the to 55g tanks I have in the basement. The 55 was originally a habitat for my snowflake eel but since he's no longer with us, I started using it as a catch-all. Eventually I upgraded a few light and started keeping frags in it and we all know that a 55g is not ideal for keeping SPS frags. So I bought some plumbing parts and went to work. I bought the tank and the stand so there's nothing I can post about producing sawdust.

Here's the starting point.

At this point I had everything (corals, live rock, fish, inverts) all in buckets and old tanks. While my friend and I were working on the basic plumbing, this little bugger climbed up some live rock and managed to escape (he's fine now).

Yesterday I met my goal of getting the tank itself set up and all of the live stuff transferred. I used almost all of the water I could from the 55g (40 gallons) and slowly added 15g of new freshly made saltwater. I didn't want to shock anything so I did this 5g at a time with 6 hours of separation.

There's still a lot to be done but the move has been made and everything is starting to open up. My first goal is to add more saltwater and get the sump running. I'm going to use the 55g that I've taken offline as a sump and I'll update as that progresses. Right now everything's pretty basic. Frag tank, lights, small sump and I'm shopping for a used skimmer.

Looking good! I was starting to wonder when I'd see this build!

Very cool! Love the escape artist! And a 55 gallon sump! It will be a stable setup for sure!

Well, it's been quite a while. I really did have the best of intentions when I started this thread. I was going to document the steps and progress all along the way but then I got distracted, had some algae, set up another system and things just kinda went along. Well, the tank is doing well so I thought I'd post a pic or two. I'm still trying to get the lights hung. Every time I come up with a solution, I decide to go with something else. I am, however, going to stick with a 36" fixture even though it's a 48" tank.

Well it's been a while so I thought I'd post an update. I used to run all T5s on a very sketchy piece of aluminum L channel but I upgraded to an Aquaticlife 36" hybrid with 2 AI Prime's. I was looking back at some of the previous pictures and noticed a few leptastreas that I no longer have. They used to do really well in my frag tank but recently they've been slowly dying back. But the acros that I have are doing a lot better. I still deal with low nutrients but it seems to have hit it's stride.

Damn dude i really do need to come by. I can help make some of those corals part of your "i no longer have" list.

Still waiting on the elephant ear colony to grow out so I can get one. How's it doing under the new lights?
