I bought this JBJ auto top off unit the other day but something is wrong. The sensors and pump are set up correctly and that all works, but whenever the pump is off the water just siphons through the tube and makes the sump and reservoir just even out. I have tried three pumps and the same happens with all of them. What can I do about this?

Make sure that your tube rises above the level of the sump and top off reservoir and also not submerged in the sump.

Make sure the discharge tube is not submerged. Also make sure it is above the waterline of the make up water.

Thanks. That makes sense. I'll need to mount it somehow tomorrow. I had it way down in the sump to make sure it didn't come out when the pump comes on.

I used the extra switch hanger that came with mine. Zip Tie it to that bracket. If you don't have an extra, use the one the switch is attached to. Use a hose barb and elbow to angle the water in.
Basically as others explained, the pump shut off but caused reverse siphon and sucked water back in until the sump water was equal too, or allowed air to enter the tubing... Breaking siphon.
