I'm so excited to find this club. I just moved from Gainesville, FL into an apartment in Dunwoody, GA. So far things are going well... granted, moving my tank was a bit nerve-racking.

Anyway, I'm not a "member" just yet as all the moving expenses have left things a bit tight... but I definitely plan on joining and going to some of the events.

Right now I have a 90G tank and 29G "display" refugium. I also have a wet/dry and protein skimmer. Not much in the tank right now as I sold my fish to my LFS before the move. I really didn't think they'd be able to survive the 24 hours in a bag, and didn't want to risk their lives. So, the tank right now has a couple emerald crabs, a sally light foot, a shrimp, and brittle star. There are also some random snails. I've got some mushrooms as well in the tank. I've got a couple of corals, but they're not looking too hot right now. Unfortunately, a side of my CF's broke. So, on one side I just have a couple clamp lights with 6700k bulbs.

I'm trying to find a couple of good fish stores in the area. I really miss my old LFS in Gainesville as they were extremely knowledgeable and competitive.

About me... I'm 23 years old. I've been involved with saltwater tanks for about two years. Prior to that, I've owned a couple of fresh water tanks. I decided to dive into saltwater tanks as I used to help my dad maintain his tank when I was smaller. I just graduated from UF and moved up here to accept a job.

So... sorry about the long post. Once again, I'm extremely excited to find this club. I look forward to actually meeting a couple of reefers :)

Welcome to the ARC!!! There are several good LFS in the Atlanta area so you will have more to choose from. Here's the link to our sponsor map or you can just go to the list.

You should try to attend the meeting we are having on Tuesday. It's not a typical meeting but it should be fun. We are having a mini frag/equipment swap.

yes welcome, alot of cool people in the club.. we went white water rafting yesterday :)

welcome, I visit the site daily, don't post much. Just take in the info.

Welcome to the asylum!!!

You're gonna love it here.

And now for the important question ... what kind of corals do you have and when will you be fragging?

:D

I haven't been there in a long time, so I don't know how good it is, but the closest one to you is probably Petland. It's a mile or so north of 285 on Ashford-Dunwoody, in the Wal-Mart shopping center.

That Petland is pretty decent. I was in there about once a week when I lived on that side or town.

That was one of the first places I went to as I needed some salt when I was refilling my tank. Never hearing of a Petland, I was expecting more of a "Pet Supermarket" environment. I was actually pretty impressed... except they only had Instant Ocean (I prefer Tropic Marin, Oceanic, or Reef Crystals).

I went into Marine & Tropical Fish... but I wasn't too</em> impressed with their staff... and their prices amazed me. I'm thinking this is somewhat typical though when I thought about it. I mean, I'm used to fish/LR prices in Gainesville, FL & Miami, FL.

I don't mind a 20-30 minute car ride, so I plan on stopping by these places over the course of the month:

Atlantis Aquarium
The Aviarium
Cappuccino Bay Aquarium
Fish Store & More

From what I understand "It's Fishy Business" is like a pick-up only place.

Just so you know... these business really owe any business I give them to this club. I searched ALL over Google for some stores and came up with ONLY Marine Fish. This club is great...

Cap Bay is a good store. The coral selection is great as well as the live rock selection. Plus, they have premixed Tropic Marin salt available.

Welcome to the club. Not sure if someone already mentioned, but most of the shops that are sponsors give discounts to paying club members. Definitely paid itself off for me.

Also, check out the club announcement section...we will be meeeting at a pub of of exit 7 so pretty close for you.

Welcome to Georgia:up: , where nearly everything is taxed:confused2: . Don't even mention Ad Valorem on aquariums. Ah, I didn't say that out loud did I?

welcome! there are a ton of lfs around...some good, some bad. check them all out and you'll find the ones that click.

oh yeah, Marine Fish gives ARC members 30% off, so that will ease the pain of the prices :) A single fish purchase can pay for the membership!

but ... if you shop on Saturdays, just make sure you get to the counter before noon to pay for your purchases. After that, full price.

your better off not going to atlantis aquarium IMO. Marine Fish is good but the discount only applies on the WEEKDAYS!! Absolutly no discount whatsoever on the weekend. 30% on fish and 20% on dry goods. Also there stuff is marked up pretty high so really its like 20% on livestock and 10% on drygoods. Also some select corals are only 10% off. Your best bet is to buy stuff from ARC members and online. Next Sat there is a huge chattanooga frag swap it should be cool.

did not know about the before noon thing at marine fish , are you sure about that ? If you want cheap fish from an LFS go to Pets Unlimited in marietta <--- intersection of delk and powers ferry next to microcenter. For good prices on corals check out petland in alpharetta. I think most of the coral are around $20 each.

Yesir... you get a whoppin' 2 hours to shop on Saturdays. See follow up to http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=233">Sticky</a> ... (scroll to the 2nd post)

I do think Marine Fish is a good place to window shop, though. They have a large variety. Find a fish you really like, then order it online.

C'mon, guys.... Kenya trees and Xenias.... $60??? (that's what we saw)

I just can't see paying their prices for corals.

Beautiful store, but pricey.

Group buys and power buys are available at ARC if you're a member and members are great about fragging corals or selling fish and/or equipment at great prices.

Awesome. thanks for the tip.

I had the general idea that things were marked up pretty high. For a small handful of macro algae it was ~$10, whereas I could have gotten more for less in Florida.

I'll see if I can do the drive up to Chattanooga frag swap, although I don't have much to actually swap right now. It would be fun to stop by either way though.
