He's hiding at the moment and I expect him to hide for a while. From what I read they're bit shy and there Reef Safe. It came from a big reef tank with alot of highend SPS colonies and the previous owner loved it and found it hard to part with. I know some other members have one or had one of this fish. It's called a quoyi parrotfish, the colors are just simply outstanding.

I believe Acroholic Dave has one but I'm not really sure. If anyone has any experience with this magnificent fish, please let me know what your experience has been.

Thanks,

Yes it is. I can say have two fish now in my system that I admired while vacationing in various locations around the world. A Moorish Idol in which I've had in my system for just over a year now and the other one is a now a Parrot Fish.

He's already out and about and eating. I took this quick snapshot of him in my system.

As they say, I was in the right place at the right time.

Congrats on getting a Quoy's. I have one I got from SEA. They are great fish, and not bad at all in an SPS Reef. You may see a few scrape marks once in a while on a colony base, but nothing an otherwise healthy colony cannot easily recover from. Mine is a real clown.

Only warning comes from if you have an acrylic tank. Look at this pic of an acrylic 240 after a few months with a Quoy's in it, hehehe! They do this thing where they attack the glass. Funny to watch, but not good if your tank is not glass. My 465 is glass, so no issues for me, thankfully. [/QUOTE]Thanks for the input Dave. I've seen that RC post and that was the only neg so far on what I've found on this fish. In just the short time he's been in my tank he's has overtaken my tank and eats like a pig He was very content in his previous home and within an hour he just adapted to my system. I can contribute this success to the previous owner who took very good care of him and he came from another 300 gallon. So far I'm pleased and I hope that doesn't change

Very nice.

I know you all think I have no heart but now I have an ultrasound to prove it. :)

Supposed to be. I have only two LPS corals in my 465, and I have not seen it bothering them. And acroporas haven't been bothered, except a scrape or two once in a while. They heal up though.

Holy crap. At first I was looking for a fish, then thought those little marks were fry of some sort until I looked closer at the pic. Wow, that's insane! What exactly causes the scrap? Is this from there jaw or something on their side?

The Quoy's beak causes the scratches.

I've seen big ones diving, knew they had a beak, but didn't know of this behavior. That tank is toast.

It's hilarious to watch, but not if your tank is acrylic.

Not to hijack your post, but I have had my Quoys in the tank for a few weeks, she's great for algae control and does not appear to be eating my corals. She scrapes the algae off the glass, just like in your pics. Thanks for the re-assurance.
