HAD A KOLE TANG DIE LAST NIGHT! had sum small spots on him. last night he was covered in white spots and passed away. Anyone know of the cause of this! :0(

Kole are know not to have a real high mortality rate anyways.. My hippo tang seems like it keeps ick for about a week every so often and its still kicking. Clears up with some good feeding in my case. Not everyone is the same though

idk it was a BIG mistake to get him. He was eating his daily feedings. flake food or brine shrimp. also he would graze on algae all day! so who knows. I tested my water and nitrate was fine..0. tha salinity was stable and ph was good also 8.3. so who knows..prolly ick! what do u suggest. a 30% water change so my other fish dont get infected?

ph 8.3
salinity 1.024
Nitrite and Nitrate is at 0
all the other levels are good also...im wondering if he was just stressed due to the foxface picking on him

Its a smaller foxface. maybe 3 inches. i just think the tank was stressed out :aww: my amonia was good also. all the levels were to par. I just did a 20% water change after removing the tang so hopefully that will help.

What size tank do you have?

Sounds like he had ich and was malnurished.

Wait a minute, you already know the answer...your tank is too small for a tang!

Don't bother checking your water; it won't tell you anything.

I know my tank is to small for a tang. i have seen plenty of tanks that have had regals and hawaiin yellow tangs for 2-3 years and they have been perfectly healthy. and my tang def was not malnurished . He was on a good diet. fish die. thats part of the hobby. unfortunitally i had to learn the hard way! haha

and a 46 gallon will be fine for a foxface. you can check plenty of fish sights and they even say a foxface can fit in a 30gallon! which i def would never do. I think he will be fine in a 46, he has a good amount of swimming room and lots of live rock to hide in

thank you for the suggestion. I am new to the hobby and I heard that the tang would be to small for the tank. I was just like a little kid and a candy store. this cost me a $30 loss so im going to DEF read up be4 i add anything else that size. I appreciate the advice

We've all made our mistakes and learned from them. You've made a great first step by joining us and asking questions.

Tangs can't do well eating brine and flake. They need their greens.

Charlie has linked live aquaria. That is a great site to check for fish requirements. They're a good company and have good data.

Buy some sushi nori from a H-mart or similar. It's cheap and tangs/foxface love it.
