So I'm in kona and the beaches are covered in black lava rock. I plan on bringing a few pieces home for my tank. I found a lot of lava rock safety discussion on the boards with various opinions both positive and negative. I am thinking most people are talking about the commercial lava rock they use for landscaping and sell at home depot. This is the real deal stuff from kona. Your opinions?

I'm not interested in the luck issue, just putting it in my tank.

Watched the manta rays feed last night. Pretty amazing. I've been seriously shocked by the sheer size of the full grown tangs. The yellows and nasos are enormous. I couldnt imagine them in anything less than about 500 gallons.

I don't know. I lived there for four years and the nightly news would mention at least monthly how many packages of lava rock were sent back from people around the world that felt cursed from taking it. Reef tanks take a bit of luck and I wouldn't introduce anything into the tank that might compromise it.
Seriously
There is high sulfur content in those rocks. Not sure how sulfur will do leaching into your tank. We used to call them "stink rocks".

Thank you. That helps.
