koralia 720s?

would two 720s in a 55 gallon tank be too much? im thinkin of buying them off ebay but it seems that 720 is cheaper than the 425. also im setting up a 25g tall tank as a quarantine tank, would 1 720 be too much for that?

Not in my opinion. FWIW, I had two 1400s in a 90g and the corals (and fish) loved it... as a matter of fact, I went larger when I took them out.

My frag tank now has one of them in it... it's a 30g technically, but the height of the overflow in it means it really holds about 25g. Again, no problem.

I think you will be fine depending on what you are trying to keep. I have 2 of them in a 60 cube and it is fine.
