Lace Rock

Anyone use lace rock? If so ever had any problems with it? I read an article about a guy calling his local landscape supply shop and they sold lace rock at significantly lower prices than live rock. Some people even said they got it as low as .50/lb. Anyone have experience with this? I still need 60-70# of rock for my 90g im building and think this may be a good alternative.

Yes, IME it's no good. It has no porosity for the necessary de-nitrafication bacteria.

I googled and it the description of it says that it is a very porous rock. Is this a false statement?

Do you have any problems with it? Be advised this is a tank that is not set up or cycled yet and i will cycle all dry rock except for my 5lbs of live rock that i purchase or i may just collect a cup of sand from my LFS.

Huh, the stuff I had wasn't. I was heavy and even when I took it out, it barely drained any water. Maybe it was just the rock I had.

Lacerock is perfectly fine in a reef tank! I have kept a reef sucesfully fine for 7 years with only lace rock in it.

i belive the following link should help you out... but it all comes down to ..cool shapes, environmentaly freindly, ALOT cheeper, provides the correct PH, does not leach anythign bad.

Lace rock is the way to go, great looking rock for a fraction of the price. I'd recommend seeding it with other live rock first but you don't have top very porous and the shapes and sizes range all over the map depending on what you want.

well i think i may have found some like rock from another person on here at a decent price and if that goes through then i will just get it from him but if he cant do it then i will just buy some lace rock and clean it up
