Can anybody do anything with a leaky 220 galRR tank. I was hoping i could fix it but not sure how big of a job it would be and if it is even worth my time and effort.

it is leaking all around the base. its not flowing water but it is a continuous leak. kind of minimul but dont want any leaks in the house the tank was given to me and i was told everything was good but i got it and one side of the tank had been patched with acrylic over the glass were it had a crack and the funny thing is is that that is the part that is not leaking.

Acrylic over glass? On a 220??? Is this a joke? Silicone won't bond acrylic to glass...not for long anyway. I would never trust that tank! IMO the only fix is to have a new piece of glass cut for that side and have the tank completely resealed.

no joke. i had no idea what i was getting and this is what i got. so basically i am going to be throwing this away. i have no idea what else to do. it really sucks because this was going to be my first large tank and was looking forward to it. oh well things happen.

It would be cheaper to reseal it than to throw it out and replace the tank. It's a pain to do but definitely not impossible either.

i am going to talk to some people about getting a new piece of glass for it and trying to fix it myself i am just extremley frustrated with this. what would be the most important part when trying to replace the glass?

size has to be perfect and you've got to remove all the silicone (completely) and re-seal the whole tank...

old silicone won't bond with new silicone..

+1 on that! If you are unsure about measuring the glass, the glass company would do it for you. Put the ownership of the glass size on them. If they get it wrong, then they have to recut it. If you get it wrong, well you now own a big piece of glass. Resealing a tank is really pretty easy. Just have to make sure you have the right silicone and do this in a very well ventilated area. It will take some time to do.
