Do they make Led lights for aquariums? (so you can do away with the other types)

Absolutely. They are much more expensive, though. Check this out:

I think the fixtures here were around $600 a piece, if I'm not mistaken.

Short answer. Yes they do.

It is still a new technology for reefkeeping and keeps improving. There is pleny of info here and on other forums both for and against led's. That said I did a custom install on my 65g and so far I couldn't be happier.

I really haven't seen much lately against LEDs. They seem to give off some decent PAR readings as long as the tank isn't too deep.

We replaced 2 x 54w PC with 12 Watts of LED (Panorama by Ecoxotic) in January, on our 12g Aquapod... tank has never looked better, livestock growing like crazy.

That would be my concern with LED's and his tank, Its a 180 hex so it has a lot of depth to it.

The only problem with the plasma is "coverage" or "spread" They seem to be very directional. Kinda like a beam.

Hey John, how are the fish doing?

Ah. Then unless you have some extra money lying around to just try them out, I'd go with something less expensive. I'd be interested to see what the PAR readings would be, though.

Is this a typo, don't you mean 2X28W ???

In any event, this is good to hear that one Panorama is enough light for a 12G Nano...

Also, you have to dim down the plasma lamp a TON to get any decent kelvin rendition, like 70% or so. I couldn't own a plasma lamp without a bunch of blue supplementation.

Newb, question. What does the PC stand for in 2 x 54w PC

Thanks.

Thanks.

Power Compact Fluorescent. Relatively old school aquarium lighting basically replaced by T5.

Ah I see. So is that what would come standard on a regular tank? Not aftermarket?

It comes standard on many tanks because it's cheaper.

The light penetration of the plasma is awesome though, agree on the color though

I use cheap ebay LED lighting for my moonlighting when the MH isn't on. I just picked up strips and zip tied them to the top of the tank lid. They probably do not add any beneficial lighting though.

Actually from everything I have seen the PAR is not that hot with them dimmed to a color that is eye pleasing.
