From somewhere I read that the XR-E are the lower end or less bright of the three.
Anyone know what the differences are, simply put?
Thanks for info.

From what I understand the color we desire for reef tanks are not.available in the other leds or at least that was what I was told. More info van be found @t nano-reef.com. in the dig lighting example look at evils thread on led lighting

I've seen a few different NON cree led builds and the color is great. My build will be done non cree and for a 1/3 of the price!

There is no point to spend $4-6 per led IMO! When the non name brand will do just fine.

OP the only different that I know of is the price. LOL

XR-E vs. XP-G:

1) XP-G is about 30 - 40% more efficient
2) XP-G is a smaller physical package (star)
3) XP-G has a wider viewing angle (with no optics)
4) XP-G has had fewer optics choices, they're sometimes more expensive, and there are not really wide optics.

But in terms of LEDs from what I've read that would only a few lumens correct??

Colin,

Where are you buying yours from, interested in comparing prices? Have you seen any PAR numbers on the NON-namebrand?

Excellent, thank you. Do you run the XP-G's? If so what size tank, how many LEDs?

I am curious because I plan to retro the PCs on the Bio 8 to LEDs in the near future, so interested in seeing what everyone is working with/what to go with. Thanks again.

Edit:

I'll have to check that out, thanks man.

the main difference that I've seen is that some colors arent' available in one of the versions (not sure which, as I looked into DIYing a new fixture for about 10 minutes before deciding to buy a manufactured item..)
