For those Who are interested in MH bulb colors.
I read recently were someone in this forum ask another member to come by and see what his new MH 12k reeflux bulbs looked like because he was interested in getting some for his tank also. I was at Marine Fish and thought of that person.
If you go to Marine Fish look at their center coral tank. It has 2 lights on it. Both are 12000K Reeflux 400 Watts The same age, in what looks like luminarc reflectors.
One light looks awesome to me, nice crisp white, with a hint of blue, and with actinic purple to it maybe even a touch of pink. The other looks good, but just kind of blueish like most 20K lamps look. The awesome one also seemed to be a good bit brighter. All that to say ballast combo make the light what you see. I knew a ballast will make a big difference in PAR, but until i saw for myself, I had no idea how much difference the color could be. They told me that one ballast was the PFO ballast and the other was a Coralife. FWIW
