light fixture/electrical question?

A friend of mine is having what I think is an issue with a T-5 fixture. It is a T-5 fixture with 2 plugs; One the actinics, one for the daylight bulbs. When you plug in for actinics should the prongs on the other plug be hot? Also when only the actinics switched on should the daylights flutter?

No prongs on any plug should ever be hot.

That is a fire potential.

Sounds like something is shorted out. I'd take it apart, unplugged of course, and look for any corrosion on the wiring, or a possible bad ballast.

Yah definitely something wrong with the wiring I would think. There should be two ballasts with independant wiring. Scary.

sounds like trouble to me. if you can just plug one plug in and light both sets of lights you have a BIG problem. If you would like me to look at it just PM and I will give you my contact info..
