I am turning the second chamber of my Biocube into a fuge, Will a single 5 watt LED be enough light for Chaeto? I saw a clip on light that would fit great, but is 5 watts enough?

Thanks for all of your continued help.

Danny

I'm currently shopping around for a fuge light for my nano. I've considered LED, but they don't seem like the will be bright enough to light to chamber top to bottom or front to back.

How big of space is the area you need to light up? Does the biocube just have the stick black paper on the back? And is the Fuge area directly on the back glass?

I just found this when I was looking at nano-reef for some more info for you.

But with these there might be a heating issue. Its 10 watts but then its only 14 gallons.

And they did say that you can cut out the film on the back so you can just laminate one chamber.

I suggest using the 5100K Flood light that was posted not too long ago! Best growth that I could have imagined and $17 DIY project.

Flood lights are great but that would probably be an overkill. Plus the heat is a big negative. A low wattage bulb in a floodlight fixture sounds like a good idea depending on the location.

floodlight? sound like I could use 1 of that light.

Somone want to point me that way?

Wasn't there a link in a past thread concerning the 6K light from Home Depot. I think it was a link to a post of different lighting outcomes on a refugium. I'll see if I can find it...

Get the shop light with the small reflector from Home Depot and pick up the 40 compact flourescent , the curly one in the shape of a regular light bulb, it is a GE Daylight 40, 5 year bulb guaranteed, 6500K. I use 2 of the 100 watt versions over my fuge and they work great. The bulbonly draws 12 watts i think and heat will not be an issue. The bulb is found in Wal Mart.

^^^ About what I use. My bulb is 5100K and was ordered off the net and works like a charm. No heat to speak of. Might be a bit over kill for a Nano but I think it is a better, cheaper chouce then an LED in the right Kelvin range.

The flood lights can be had in compact fluorescent style which eliminates the heat and drops the power consumption way down (though not LED down).

Hence the reason why I made the comment. :tongue2: J/K. In my comment, I was referring to these bulbs.
