Light height over tank?

for the last two years I have used a 48 inch coralife pc with 260 watts with legs on my 90 gal reef. I have just switched to a coralife aqualight plus 48 inch with 384 watts. My tank is built in the wall and this new fixture takes up the whole top of the tank. To make more room to feed/clean ect.. How high can I place the light above the tank with out effecting the result. I have it placed 3 inches above the tank and would like to go to 6 inches. Thanks

whats in the tank? Corals? just fish?

Its a reef tank with soft corals and a few hard corals near the top. It is over 20 inch deep

6" would be fine. Even 6" higher its still gonna put out more par than your other setup.
