One of the problems with the budget lights I have is there isn't a community to trade light programs with. I know some of it is just personal preference but is there a general rule of thumb as far as what the mix is? My lights have white, blue, UV, red and green. They're set right now at very low output and almost no red/green, but I am kind of lost as to where to set they rest of them

The main thing is to make sure you have an appropriate level of lighting (PAR) to maintain your corals. Each coral will have a different level of PAR that it likes, and SPS is usually more demanding (likes higher light and a more particular spectrum).

Coral Labs has several good programs that you can mimic for ideas on what to run. There are also PAR maps out there for your light I’m sure, that can help you with where to place things and what intensity to run.

Joey, the club/ARC has PAR meters for rent. There are also several members which have them and might be willing to help you ‘tune’ your light settings. This is for both visual appeal & the right PAR in your tank, for the type(s) of corals you want to keep.

Just ask.

If the PAR meter makes it up joeyprice, I’d like help to check my tank too.
I will definitely let you know if I wind up with temporary custody. I don't have anything to do this weekend, since BRS has turned by 2 day premium shipping into a 6 day wait.
Where else does everybody shop by the way. Not the first time I've been disappointed by the BRS shipping department.

We’ve been supporting local store Premier Aquatics with equipment purchases. Considering AlgaeBarn as we’re thinking about ordering red ogo for refugium aka future tang food.

I have spent a fair amount of money at Premier, in part because I don't really know much about other shops in the area, and in part because they have been pretty good to me. I don't want to call anybody out by name in case there is some sort of sponsor relationship I am not aware of, but the 2 local shops I have ventured into that were not Premier have left me underwhelmed.
I find inventory to be my biggest barrier to shopping locally. I often cannot find what i am looking for at an LFS, and their web sites are not setup for commerce so checking them isn't reliable. I wind up settling for something to justify the trip.

Is all good conversation but if someone was looking for lighting settings they might be surprised.
