Lighting question

I would like to know if anyone has tried using the Ecoxotic Panorama Pro led modules as the only source of lighting on a nano tank to keep zoas and possibly lower light requiring sps corals. The tank in question is 17"W X 8"D X 8"H. I wanted to know if these modules were capable of supporting these corals and if so about how many units would I need. Also, there will be a 1" sand bed and will have control over the height of the lights from the surface of the water.

FWIW, I have 2 24" Panorama Pro units over my 90g. All my hammers and frogspawn love 'em under 24" of water, and my monti caps are growing great under 12" of water. My branching star polyps are 18" down and growing like crazy.

Is this a standard 4 feet 90 gal? are these the units that have 3 individual panorama pro strips?

2 of the pro strips will let you keep sps in your tank you may won't to look in to a member modified led fixture on the forums for sale could be cheaper you could also use par 38 bulbs.
Check rapid led they have a lot of kits for nanos

The 24" units have 5 strips. If you got the 18" unit, it's quite possible that you wouldn't want to run it at full strength. 8" deep isn't very deep at all when these are very capable of going 24" or more.

And the reason I went with this over something like the Member Modifieds is that the Panorama Pros don't have a fan. The Panorama Pro units are completely silent. The MMs have quite a bit of noise. It's white noise, but it's loud. That may not be an issue for you, though.

Thanks Shane. The white noise is a problem because the tank is in my office. What I was considering was the 12.5" individual Panorama Pro strips. I was thinking of using 2 of these over the tank but after reading what you guys have I debated only getting one and suspend it about 6-8" above the water surface. What do you think?

You could try one strip in your tank it may be enuf for softies and lps sum sps at the top right under the strip
This would be all you nead for sps and you can allways run a few uv chips in it also

I'd definitely try just one and see how it goes. However</em>, the cost for just one (after everything you need to buy to make it work) is $146.96 online. Adding a second will push the cost to $231.95. For such a small situation, there might be much more economical options. Not sure. I haven't researched as thoroughly as I researched lighting for my 90g.

You are right, for the size tank I am not sure I am willing to spend that kind of money. Thanks for the info, lots of decisions to make.
