I'm getting ready to finally upgrade after many years in the hobby. Over my 225 mixed reef, I will be removing a Coralife 4x96w PC fixture and suspending a Hamilton 3x250w 14k MH w/ 2x80w T5 actinics.

I'm looking for advice on the best idea to minimize the shock to my livestock and get them adjusted to the new lighting. Here are a few ideas:

1) Use only the middle halide for awhile before turning on the other two

2) Raise the new fixture above the tank and lower it over time (suggestions on height? The PC has been right on top of the tank)

3) use eggcrate (or other screen) to diffuse the light, and then remove later

Any other suggestions?

I would use both 2 and 3.. Using screen instead of eggcrate though..

and also working up to the total photo time over a few weeks.. start with a couple hours and gradually increase it over time until you are back to your normal run time..

i was gonna suggest all 3 and the addition on docs post.
go with what he says though,
i havent any experience in this ....YET.

All that and start with shorter photo periods. Start with 2hours and work your way up for a few weeks

sur would have been nice to have asked that question about a week ago from me. i went from the leds to MH same only 3 hours less run time :(
