Yesterday i came up on a deal for a 225gallon tank. It measures 72"x24"x30"

What size halides does everyone think I should run for a clam on the sand.

I was thinking 3/250watts. But i have no experience with halides.:fish:

LOL.. Pretty soon someone is gonna make you a deal on an ocean and you're gonna buy it =)

but being productive... Is the tank acrylic or glass? Acrylic, you have to worry about aiming the lamps right or you'll run the risk of breaking the euro-bracing (or top bracing). Glass, you're good to go.

I have a 300 which is 30" deep and am running 5 member modded leds. They're not as intense as MH, but are doing the job.

Well I got the 190 sold and got the 225 with canopy and stand for what I sold the tank for. And its in better shape

What kind of clam?

400s would be an easy choice but you can certainly make a case for 250s. It really depends on the reflector/ballast/bulb combo that you decide to use. I've seen 30" tall tanks that got decent PAR numbers at the sand bed with 250 watters using higher PAR bulbs in Lumenbright reflectors.

Water quality can have an impact on your PAR numbers as well. Staying on top of water changes and running ozone can increase the PAR you get and may allow you to go with 250s.
