lionfish lighting

So I'm reading about lionfish and they say use "subtle" lighting.

What is that in terms of an aquarium?

I had mine (before he got killed)-and had just the cheapo lights that came with the aquarium. I think they were called florescent-then I got some PC lights, and he didn't like it as well-I could tell he was almost blinded by them for a good while when the lights came on--I wouldn't over light the tank you have him in-
