is there anything out there that will measure alk and calcium live without breaking the bank? i hate to buy used stuff. the reason i ask about these things is that those are the thing that bounce a lot in my tank mostly alk

Not that I know of. It’s a new thing to have automated testing and the companies that make them are capitalizing on it. It’ll be a while before there is enough competition to bring prices down.

"Bank" can very subjective from person to person. If you're talking sub $600, then no, there's nothing below that price point that I'm aware of yet.

Automated testing would also be somewhat dependent of what, if any, control equipment you may already have.
