Live rock got me. Got you yet?

So I can't find any posts on people getting their fingers stuck or pricked by live rock so I'll post one to see what everyone says. I was moving rock today and got pricked in my finger tip. I dug around to make sure no slivers were in there but now my finger tip is swollen a bit. I hope it goes down tonight.

Guess it's time to get some gloves.

Who else has gotten stuck and what happened to you?

Oh yeah. Stabbed my pinky with some and it was bigger than my thumb for 2 days. I think it was an old vermatid tube that got me. Nothing Jack Daniels couldn't help me through.

I have ended up with literally thousands after recieving a ton of liverock and decided to scrub all the rock before curing. I was picking them out for days.

There are some pretty nasty bugs that can be on LR. Do you have a living will in place?

No joke... people do not realize how bad of stuff you can catch from your reef tank. If it does not get better within 24 hours, I HIGHLY recommend that you go to the doctor. If you start feeling hot around the area, go to the doctor! If it starts making red streak marks, GO TO THE DOCTOR! If/when you go to the doctor, make sure they know you go a wound from your aquarium. Most common, you can have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycobacterium_marinum">Mycobacterium marinum</a>. Other nasty bugs you can get from your aquarium:

Clostridium perfringens, Clostridium tetani, Erysipelothrix rhusopathiae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Seriously, not stuff you want to play around with.

I have cut my finger on a small feather duster tube before, and sprayed blood all throughout my tankbefore I realized what I did....biiiig water change after that.

Yeah, sharp little suckers, those small feather duster tubes. Lost about a pint myself once moving things around.

When I first started out I had a rash on the back of my hands for about three months after doing the initial aquascape of my rock and I got nailed by a bristleworm once. Since then I wear heavy shoulder length rubber gloves whenever I'm handling rock and the thin rubber ones anytime I have my hand in the water.

Maybe I've just been lucky but I've never cut myself or anything moving my LR around. But that is one nasty pic there of the infection.

Takes about 5-6 months to clear it up!

Good thing mine feels better already, that finger is nasty. Still going to pick up some gloves this weekend anyway and hang them on the stock tank.
