OK... so here's a real newby question.

Last Thursday I bought 50 lbs of live rock from an established tank. Brough it home and put it in a Brut container with 20 gallons of salt water. I filled the remainder of the container with marco roc. I threw in a magdrive 5 for circulation. It's in my garage and I am getting heat built up from the magdrive during the day... I cut it off at 82 degrees.

I noticed a few snails exploring the3 marco roc and thought that was pretty cool! Today I notices growth emerging from the marco rock. I thought this was even cooler!!

In my newby state I am not sure what I have here. I believe them to be Zoanthd, perhaps I can even guess they are the brown button type. I am not putting much light on the rock to keep the heat down. These guys are small... about 1/4' across. But they are everywhere along with the ocassional asternia stars.

Can anyone help me ID this?

Problem posting picture.... try this

I'm no expert but those look like what somebody pointed out once in a LFS as Majanos.
I may very well be wrong, and hope that I am!

Yeah... this is probably spreading from the live rock... not even algae growth yet. ust trying to ID.

Like I said, I hope I'm wrong. I've seen various photos in threads on here of majanos and it seemed like there can be quite a color variation. Do majanos suck back into the rock when touched like aiptasia does? If so that's an easy test. If they're corals they'll just close up.

yes majonoes act just like aptasia but majones are much more visually appealing than aptasia...and they will both suck back into the crevis where they are attached

why isn't the pic showing up on my cpu i usually only have that problem when i am at work?

Read up on Majanos a bit... they seem to travel up the rock, which is happening in this case. I'll just take out the top layer of marco rock and set them in the sun for a week, then scrub with a brush to get them off the rock.

+1
Pretty cool that you took the time to seed the rock in quarantine rather than in your display. Qt and patience are the best rules you can go by

KILL THEM...KILL THEM WITH FIRE!!!!!

Sorry, I always wanted to be the one to say that in a thread instead of being told it!

Pulled out all the rock... only found the buggers on two of the top marcos. They are setting in the sun... I am KILLING THEM WITH FIRE!

I keep checking every day.

I'm just amazed that I was the first to come up with a correct answer; I don't have that many of them to spread around.

Now if somebody would just respond in one of MY threads when I need help...

Nobody likes you. I'm sorry you had to find out this way though.

JK, of course. One time I posted like 5 threads on RC in a matter of a week. It was when I was setting up my new tank. Not ONE of them ever got a response.:shout:

I joke about nobody liking me here. I actually have an issue with an SPS but I can't handle the rejection of nobody responds, so I haven't posted for help yet! :D
