I'm just completing my 110 reef. I've done a DIY LED setup, have been filtering water and pretty much have everything ready to go.

I'm abou to order live rock and had a few questions:

in trying to aquascape, any special drill bit I might need? Can I cut the "rock" with a bandsaw????

How long can I have it out of the water doing driulling, cutting, etc before I get into trouble with it dying?

Thanks everyone!

Michael

You can use a cheap masonry bit from HD to drill it. I dint think a band saw bless would hold up well plus the cut wouldn't look very natural. A hammer would hold up well. LOL. If you want it to break it in a certain spot drill a few small holes along the the spot you want it to break the smack it with a hammer.

If it is out of the water for long it will have die off of the BB but that isn't a terrible thing. The die off will cause you to go into a cycle but that will help grow more BB. If it were me, I would go with about 2/3 base rock and 1/3 live rock to save some money. The base rock will become live in short order.

+1

Just buy an extra drill bit in case the first breaks or gets too hot and warps.

I have seen people cut pukani rock with band saw. Honestly if you had an idea of how you wanted it to look, you can use silicone to hold the pieces together, or I have also heard of people using zip ties.
