Is there really a benefit to raising LR from the sand bed? I understand it helps with keeping detrious in the water column, aiding removal via filtration. I am trying to determine if there is a significant benefit to this method.

Anyone have some advice or information on this?

Even better, is there anyone that is using LR stands and how did they make them?

Thanks,

JC

The only benefit I can see is to remove possible dead spots in the sandbed caused by pockets in the rock or the rock not sitting directly on the bottom surface of the tank. This is pure speculation though.

it also give the fish a spot to hide in and you can create nice sturctures.
when i get a new tank that is what i am going to do.

I laid egg crate down first then laid the foundation rock, then my substrate, then stacked from there...... No problems as of yet...

Another benefit is stability. Heard too many stories about an unsecured rock taking a tumble and cracking the glass.
