Okay this may be really dumb and I maybe overthinking this way to much, but....

I have put my live sand in the tank and have filter running and lights on to start the cycle. If the sand is live, do I need to feed it with somthing to keep it alive? extra nutrients? Or do I just let it do its thing on its own?

What about using Kent Stability to help it establish itself?

No, you don't need to feed it.... Seachem or Kent Stability will help accerlate the bio load but you need something to balance it out and handle the bio load like Live Rock, Matrix Rock, etc.. etc..

Got it thanks! I am rock shopping today.

Oh yeah and I meant Seachem Stability not kent

the whole "live" thing refers to bacteria. And there's enough crud in just about anything to keep bacteria alive.

Live Rock (from an established tank) is really where your benefit is.

IMHO, no. It's a waste of money... I buy dry sand Caribsea SeaFlor (if I recall correctly). Rinse it WELL (like plan on a few hours to do this) and use it.

The packaged "live sand" products are debatable as to whether they actually have any substantially useful bacteria in them.

I completely agree. Besides, you can always grab a cup of sand from an established tank to seed your sand.
