<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">I am talking to my business partner about starting a LFS in the Atlanta area. He has worked at a fish store for a few years, I have a background in cooperate America, (and have keep saltwater fish for years)</span></span>
<span style="font-size: 13px;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">I have a few questions. I know that this will GREATLY depend on TONS of factors, but I am looking for ballpark numbers and information.. </span></span>

<span style="font-size: 13px;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">about how much money does it take to start up a LFS (small in size) *both fresh and saltwater fish*</span></span>

<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">from those that are currently in the business how long did it take before you were profitable?</span></span>

<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">How lucrative are they? *on average*</span></span>

<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">Please also provide any info that might help-- thanks</span></span>

<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">I dont know if your going to get a responce from other LFS's in Atlanta because of the competition lol. But, I could help you with some working capital after you have been in business for 3 months. Good Luck!</span></span>

I dont know if you will get answers from other LFS owners around town because of competition lol. But, I can help you with some working capital after you have been in business for 3 months or so. Good Luck!

man its a great idea but why arent there any stores in dawsonville. It really sucks going on a road trip every weekend. You should do it up here.

we are looking to offer servicing tanks and tank sitting while people are out of town, any demand for that with some of the members on here? it is a double edge sword, if you get into the service side, it takes the hobby out of it, for people, i mean who wants to buy a tank and pay someone to take care of it and call that a hobby, i know people that do that, but most are not members on reef club sites, just curious you guys thoughts about a market in atlanta for that

My guess is that on the servicing side, you'll get your clients from businesses such as restaurants/bars and doctors offices. Folks like us would rather spend the money on coral, and we're too into the hobby to want to give up the maintenance side of it, for the most part. That's not to say you won't benefit from spreading the word here and becoming a sponsor!

My family has been in business for themselves for YEARS...Since before me...we'll just say 30+. If you are going to start any sort of retail store it must be something that YOU run. Don't expect to hire a bunch of people to run your business and expect to make money. For the first several years YOU will need to be on-site, doing all the dirty work.
This is the one mistake that I know a lot of people have made. You can't hire hourly people to create "Your Business". Now once your up and running and established...then you can afford that dirty word...."PAYROLL"
