I have had a smaller tank lately, I think its 34g Fiji Cube. It has a syphon overflow, and is pretty much silent in that regard. Every weekend I pull out the 2 filter socks from my skimz sump and rinse them. I can tell when they need to be cleaned because they add an extra "splash" sound to the sump as they overflow.
A few days ago I happened to think, ... no noise... and I haven't cleaned the socks in quite a while. Yesterday I decided to check it out. LOTS of copepods in the socks keeping them clean! I've never experienced this so I thought it was cool... Its the little things ha.

You should try to empty the pods out of the socks and or run sockless for a period of time daily to let the pods continue to live and populate your system. Eventually the pods in the socks will starve. Or provide another way from them to circulate through your system. Pods are great CUC :)
