Thanks to everyone for the help so far in getting the tank set up. Everything is up and running and with exception of the pump everything is at an acceptable noise level. The drain is good, the sump is quiet but my mag 7 return pump is very noisy and causing some vibration noise as well. Is this to be expected from this pump or are there things to look for? Will pics of plumbing help?

From internet research I've done while looking for a new pump, most feedback is that the Mag pumps are loud and give off more heat compared to others, specifically Eheim. I have a Mag 3 that I've been running for years, it's a little louder than an Ocean Runner, but not too bad. Can you tell if the pump is vibrating against something or is it internal to the pump?

I bought some silicone trivets from Walmart and put them under my mag24. It helps, but but doesnt quieten it. the entire mag series is loud from what I've heard.

hmm ok thanks. It's only ben running for 24 hours and I did notice the water level had a dropped a little in the return chamber so I have topped the min level up a bit and it has help but it does seem like it might just be a loud pump.

I never had a problem with my mag 9.5 when I had it. I had to touch the pump after I plug it in to make sure it was running because I can't hear it, I can barely even feel it.

Mag pumps are hot & loud. It's one of the last pumps I'd use. There are plenty of reasonably priced pumps that are fsr superior.
