Lowering salinity

According to my refractometer, my salinity is 1.027. I want to lower it some. I have 150 gallons. How many gallons of water should I replace with fresh water to get the desired resulty? Is there a rule of thumb about how many gallons of fresh will reduce a certain volume of salt?

Thanks in advance.

I would say just get your change water to 1.023 for your next few changes untill you get it where you want it. That would be a lot better for fish and coral rather than a sudden drop in salinity.

Agreed...

1.027 isn't like everything is gonna die. It will be some time before the tank starts to shut down. When my tank spiked to 1.030, I used half saltwater, half fresh when doing water changes. It lowered the gravity signifigantly.
Good luck!

Thanks fellas. I think that I will dilute the water during my next changes.

That's only because you don't top off until you're six gallons low. :)

So!!! LoL
I haven been keeping it 4 gallons at a time lately... Sadly enough topping of 6 gallons is only 2 days worth of evap. :)
