I have some live rock that is currently being kept in 35g rubbermaid containers with powerheads circulating the water. The containers have lids and no light is getting in to the rocks. Is there any detrimental effects to the live rock other than some loss of coralline algae? Will this "kill" the live rock? I do water changes every other week on the rocks.

This will not kill the rocks. It will kill some of the things on the rock like macro algae and things that need Photosynthesis to survive. I am currently doing the same thing with no lights.

It can actually be a good thing, if the rock has been in an established tank for any legnth of time. Do a search "cooking" live rock. It will get rid of any of the nuisance algaes and the bacteria will start to use up any of the phosphates that have built up in the rock.
