So I went to the Bahamas for a 6 day adventure. I bought an Eheim auto-feeder prior to going, and left my tank in the hands of two AA batteries.

Last night on the cruise ship back, I started to think about my tank and was more nervous and concerned than wether or not we had been robbed.

Everyone is great and fat and colorful. I think my tank responded better to me not being home than me feeding on the rotation I had before the batteries.

On another note...I brought back some shells and dead coral I found on the beach and want to place it in my tank. What should I do to it prior to placing it in my tank??? (soak in fresh water, just throw it in, etc.)

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Oh...the weather sucked, so there were no water activities and I couldn't go snorkeling. I had some good food, cigars, and went to a restaurant that has hourly shark feedings...It Was Awesome!!! I really wanted to see a reef in person, since I have never done it before, but maybe next time.

Glad you got to take the trip, I did the same back in January and had a blast.

I would not even entertain the thought of placing anything in my tank that I picked up off the beach. Thats just me.

Those Eheim auto-feeder work like a champ. I head back to Alaska for a month at a time and set them up on all my tanks without worry. On my smaller tank, 5.5g, I keep the dispenser closed except for the last notch and put a piece of tape over half of it so I dont overfeed and come back to an algae nightmare.

I have brought whole sand dollars back from the beach before and stuck them in a sink full of hot water. It killed some of the stuff off, but some of those little creatures can be quite tuff. I recommend a hot water/bleach bath, then plain water soak with Prime, or alike, then dry it in the sun for a month. I think that should take care of anything that may reside on it.

I come back from a 10 day vacation tonight. Hopefully everything is ok in my tanks...

Soak in bleach, then let it dry in the sun and do another bleach bath, let dry again and then a bath with ro water. That should take care of anything on there.

If I don't put anything from the ocean/beach in my tank I'm in the wrong hobby.

I'll do a hot water/bleach soak, then dry in the sun.

Thanks!!!
