Magnesium too high?

All livestock ar doing well, here are my parameters:
Temp - 80 (78.5 in the am)
SG = 1.024
Ph = 8.15 (I am buffering slighly now)
Ni - 0
Na = 0 (since removing bio-balls...a miracle! A also have close to a bare bottom...my tank bottom :lol2
Ca = 375 (Will add more after buffering)
Phosphate = 0
Alk = 3.5 (possibly the reeg buider will raise)
Mg = 1625 (Now I have been adding a little of the Kent product beacuse I was told by a sponsor that it may reduce the liklihood of bryosis or so other form of the plague).

What do you think?

Not too high if you can afford to keep it there. You really only need it to be 3x the calcium levels. Say your CA is 425, you really only need your Mg to be 1275 for the CA to be available in the water.

I dont think I would buffer ph at all. Just raise calcium level and mag will drop and the ph will raise naturally. As long as ph is above 7.8 caclification will occur. Another thing to consider is the fact that ph swings from am to pm.

Good advice. I will add some Ca on Sat. Thank you both. I didn't know that Ca and Mg had an inverse relationship......still learning after 30 years in the hobby. I really have start reading and stop just looking at the pictures. LOL

While I don't see any specific harm in it, I wouldn't run high mag with Tech M unless I had a bryopsis problem already appearing. IMO running it as a "preemptive strike" is a bunch of wasted money.
Also, if you were battling bryopsis with Tech M, you'd need to drop the mag slowly to normal levels and then raise it up to ~1800 with Tech M alone. It isn't the magnesium itself that does what it does, but rather some other unknown element in that product. If you have the mag high and are using "a little" Tech M to help, you aren't getting the full effect.

I read a theory (and it's only a theory) that it's the SUDDEN jump in MG that kills the bryopsis, not a sustained elevated level.

I don't know either way - just relaying the latest thing I've read about it.

I also did the Tech M treatment with excellent bryopsis kill results. Let it drop to 1100 or so then hammered it to 1700 over a week. I lost a couple of small frags but did notice substantial bleaching of some SPS....primarily caps and scrolls. My branching colonies showed no change. A few zoa colonies also bleached. Been a couple months since treatment and MG is still a little elevated but color is now returning quickly.

Like the others said, keeping MG elevated with Tech M as a preventative measure may not work. What if you spawn a Tech M resistent bryopsis....SOL then
