So I am looking into adding additional flow to my tank,

I would love to go with vortech but right now they are out of my budget.
I currently use the hydor koralia pumps in my cube and I like them a lot, what I dont like is the price of the wavemaker addon for these. So I have been looking at alternatives. Anyone ever got the red sea wavemaker working with the koralia pumps or do they only work with hydor controller.

Cheers

I would love to do that but with what I have now i can't. That's why I was looking into the pumps and controller option. I plan on adding a fuge soon and when I break the plumbing for that I can go more towards a closed loop setup.

How much flow are you looking for/what size tank?

I would highly recommend holding out for a vortec if you can. I know it sounds like I'm on the vortec bandwagon, but they are very hard to beat and you wont regret having one. They are just really nice with the built in controller. You can also stalk Reef Central for a used one, but they rarely dip too cheap since they are high demand. Maybe $350? You might end up spending close to what a used one would cost, depending on what you get the red sea and MJs for.

If I remeber right koralias will not do well on the red sea wavemaker. I think your best bet may be to run the red sea with some Maxijets. I have also heard that the maxijet mods do not do well on wavemakers, so you may have to run them stock. That would be a cheap-ish option, depending on what you are paying for a red sea and MJs.

Even cheaper would be to run the MJs with the hydor rotating attachments on them, but they reduce the flow alot, and mostly are for smaller tanks.

The squid is a good idea. When you do add your sump, keep it in mind.

I have a sump already, my issue is its the old two part oceanic acrylic sump and it takes up the whole underneath of the tank. That's why I am moding a 30L as a fuge to sit alongside the setup.

Its a 90 gallon setup with an original oceanic model 6 plus skimmer tied to a quiet one inline pump. Tank is not drilled so has an overflow system.

If you are needing help with the sump setup, you should post some pics of what you have and explain what you are tying to do, and maybe we can help, if you need it.

The tank has nowhere near enough flow right now. So I was looking at adding to kor 4's and a kor3. Right now i just have some old powerheads setup that came with the system. Not adding anything to the tank until I have the flow and lights sorted out. I am looking at around 3500 gph of flow eventually.

Here you go Chris,

Dont laugh at the age of it :)

J/k brother. :)

I don't think you need alternating flow from the getgo. I don't even know if we absolutely need it with SPS either... It's something we tend to think that helps though...

I went quite some time with just a single strong tunze in my tank. It worked great! I think you would have plenty of flow in there by just adding a few K4s. Save your money for the time being and later dump it into a good controllable pump when a good deal comes around...

Thanks Jin,

I like that idea, I plan on updating the lights, adding a fuge before christmas. I will probably be adding a new post when it comes to lights as i want to take out the cfs and replace them with t5. I am almost ready to add my first additions to the tank. I am thinking i will order those k4 today.

Cheers
