Making your own Felt filter pads

I have bought these pads from the LFS for filtering water in my sump. Has anyone used felt from the fabric store, or is there a "finish" that I need to be cautious of. The ones from teh LFS state they are sanitized or something like that. Any info would be helpful.

I bought the white filter pad material off ebay, then sewn it to an egg crate fram that fit into my sump. It clogged quickly, so I made two (so one would always be clean and ready to switch out.) It was one of my secrets to a sparkling clean tank....

Find an air conditioning store and buy it from them. The guy that custom makes our ac filters for the restaurant gives me the stuff. It's THE SAME THING
