Male Naso Keeps Nipping at Leather ???

Like the title says...
I was dumb founded when i saw him do it but he keeps continually to chew off the edges of my ORA leather. So currrently i have a plastic container over it, trying to let it heal. All the fish are fed twice a day and there is constantly sheets of nori, any thoughts why he would do this or any experience with a tang nipping corals?

I have witnessed several species of tangs eat coral. Open brains, leathers and zoas. They never decimated the coral but picked here and there.

small price to pay......Naso's are such a beautiful fish, I prefer blondes..

My regal takes chunks out of a toadstool when he is super hungry. Try to move it elsewhere, may not help but is worth a shot

What's the water movement like in your tank? Strong enough to keep the waxy coat and algae blown off of the leater? Tang may just be nipping at that? Is he hitting the entire coral, stalk or just the polyps?

I am currently having a hair algea outbreak which i assume is from overfeeding as i have been working hard to get my morish idol on a steady diet (FYI, he was eating in the store, just didnt eat when he got home, is eating sponges, flakes, and nori) so ill cut back here in the next week. But the naso, is actually eating the entire edges all around the leather. Tank is a 5 x 2 x 2 and flow is two k 1450's crossing on wave maker and then two k4's blowing forward towards the back wall. Smoothie that was mine and Rit's assumption as well, just picking the algea off the edges. Whats annoying tho, is the leather wont open unless i cover it with a plastic container...

Is the leather hurt at all? Any dying spots on the edges? Water quality could be upping the buildup on it as you mentioned. Try wrapping other foods in the nori for the idol. Kinda like a pinata. Worst thing that could happen is that it "accidentally" eats other foods

No dying spots, just chunks missing....ha, yeah thats not a bad idea.
