I have had my lights approx 2 weeks now. The dimmable lights first 3 days I ran lights at 1/2 power after that ramped em up full blast.

These are over my 30g cube hanging about 6-8 inches off water could probably lower em a lil bit but figured I would keep em higher at first to be on safe side.

Previous light was a 150w sunpod with bout 16 months run time on a Phoenix 14k

In the 2 weeks I can say that all my acan colors have improved and my rainbows I got from 1embrews are simply amazing note these are on the sand bed

I also had a sunset monti and a red planet that had pretty much lost it's color after it was placed in my tank that I got from Holley. These are now coloring back up.

I have a rasta frag that has gone from 3 heads to 6.

I have other coral growth and coloration as well.

I feel leds were experimental at best to begin with but now its my opinion that they have just as much capability as sustaining positive growth and color in coral as metal halides. They may not grow coral as fast but they definately have there place.

I think in time as we learn more the cost of leds will come down. Along with lighting that will only improve over time making halides good for nothing. I know several have already made the swith

Glad to see you like your LEDs. All I say is give it time. There will be changes you see take place for the next 6months or so.

On thing I've noticed, if you take an led adjusted coral from LEDs and put them under t5 or halide, there is a pretty big response. I've noticed that the lack of uv(even if you have the ub chips) lowers the corals natural ability to filter the uv produced from t5/halide. This usually results in the corals looking rough for a while.

Corals going from t5/halide to LEDs go through adjusting phases as well, but doesn't seem as harsh.

Come see! My best representation of how LED's can change the appearance of some corals is my Hawkins blue echinata. I love how it has turned out, but doesn't look like the Hawkins you see in pics. Mine is electric blue. I like it, but couldn't sell it as a Hawkins.

i have been running mine for about a month now. amazing color and growth compared to my other setup. before i had the marine land reef leds... and two 24 inch t5s. every thing has grown so much faster then before. i am more then happy with them and recommend them to any one. i love coming home at night and see my living room window glowing blue 8). im about to set change my 20g tank to a 29g over the next month, i have the leds sitting on a glass top, the new tank they will be hanging with no glass in the way.

Agreed,
But the same is true for most zoas under MHs and T5s - they change their appearance based on light intensity and spectrum.
Perfect example - you look different in the summer (lighter hair, darker skin) than in the winter - clearly "light exposure" related...
How a coral is "supposed" to look is really based on what we're used to...

True that. Perspective is everything. As far as growth, I think the best thing I could have done is buy a calcium reactor. I've only had it running for 2 weeks, but since then, I have seen a huge influx in growth in sps. I have been contemplating creating a thread that monitors the daily growth of this one monti I have.

I've recently replaced my ecoray 112 with two AI Sols. Despite other people dislike for the AI, I am very happy I made the switch.

I wasn't trying to say LEDs are bad, there will just be different results than what you may have expected....

I do not have enough experience or adequate way to test what lights did or did not do simply because I am comparing my leds to a worn out light. I probably would have seen better results from replacing the mh bulb. I was constantly battleing heat issues but now my tank stays around 76-78

My zoas are growing like crazy but I did start dosing with purple tech past week as my calcium was a little on the low side. One of my zoas I noticed in particar was my rastas that just went from 3 heads to 6 and my pink tip acro is showing better polyp extension

I noticed similar changes to what Ripped Tide is mentioning when I changed from VHO to MH years ago. Different light sources are bound to show up in the corals we keep...
